True colours are starting to show with the couples on this season of Married at First Sigh Mzansi.
The newly married couples are now living together and that has played a pivotal role in helping them see each other’s green and red flags and how to best navigate them.
Themba and Nelisa
Green flags: Communication, physical attraction, co-parenting, and finances have been up there. The fan favourite couple’s ability to dive into all things relationship and reality impressed right from the start. While on honeymoon, conversations about the state of their finances and desire to be under one roof with all their children, a sure indicator of two people that came into this experiment prepared.
Red flags: The big three here are the controlling issues, long distance, and the newly discovered baby mama drama. Being far apart, questioning your wife about her enjoying a glass of wine, and discovering that your husband has a baby mama that won’t let go of him all leads to a recipe for disruption. The couple has been sailing smoothly up until this point but even though Themba has raised eyebrows with his lack of boundaries, there is still hope.
Tshepo and Palesa
Green flags: The initial attraction followed by their intimate vows was enough to fully start rooting for this couple. This, together with being able to unpack their traumas was a clear sign of a beautiful road ahead and their maturity was the cherry on top.
Red flags: No one saw Tshepo as the one who would give a red list but here we are. Dishonesty, possible infidelity, polygamy chats and not kotizing has put this doting couple in danger and it has been a shame to witness. They have gone from being in love to fighting to keep their marriage going despite suspicions of Tshepo cheating and recently preferring to not have Palesa go to his home to perform wife duties.
Nkululeko and Makoto
Green flags: Their chemistry on day one was off the charts. It was followed by the constant playing and having fun together. They wrapped it nicely by being supportive of one another when they got vulnerable about their past lives during therapy sessions.
Red flags: For a couple who started off so well, they have had a whirlwind journey, and it gets draining for everyone. Their constant bickering, mutual disrespect, and choosing to heal from their past traumas while they are in this experiment has led to many problems, but they remain resilient.
Bongani and Portia
Green flags: Great communication, the same sense of humour and ability to be open and see where the journey leads are the flags that have been speaking the loudest. It is no secret that Portia was not impressed with Bongani at first sight, but they have both committed to seeing how it pans out because the good outweighs the bad.
Red flags: Lack of physical attraction, bad-mouthing, and dishonesty. These are unfortunately the results of Portia’s unhappiness with her match and have put them in a place of uncertainty especially when she confesses her true feelings in his absence but won’t say how she feels in his presence.
No relationship is perfect but sussing out the flags may be what determines if you have the real deal or if it’s better to walk away before you are in too deep.
