This week on Married at First Sight, our couples took a big step in their marriage. The ladies spent time with their in-laws, getting to know their husbands and their customs a little better. We’re halfway through this experiment and here is a summary of how the couples started and where they are now.
Perfect match to perfect disaster
Mr and Mrs Miya started off strong, with sweet vows that got everyone so emotional. They started planning family vacations and unpacking past traumas, which fostered great communication. But when talks of polygamy entered the chat, a seed of doubt was planted in Palesa’s mind.
This past Sunday, we were confronted with accusations of Tshepo’s infidelity and Palesa spiraling as a result of mistrust. Now this connection is hanging by a thread. On top of that, Palesa’s in-laws were not ready to welcome her which caused further division between the two. Is this the beginning of the end?
A mixed bag of emotions
Nkuleleko and Makoto started off with chemistry, but the couple’s differences soon became a stumbling block. Religion and expectations around intimacy kept leading to explosive arguments.
However, their commitment to the process meant that Makoto went to kotiza this week and it resulted in a deeper understanding between the two. But if we know anything about these two, it’s that we can always expect the unexpected.
A glimmer of hope
Portia has received a lot of backlash for talking about how unattractive her spouse is because he is not tall, dark, and handsome. Things started off cold and distant between this couple, with Portia describing her feelings for Bongani as “dead”.
On Sunday we witnessed a shift in chemistry and even spotted a sweet kiss between the two. Bongani’s sisters also seemed to adore their makoti, giving people a glimmer of hope for this connection. Could slow and steady be the trick for them?
Marital bliss
From the second Nelisa uttered “I love you already,” upon meeting her husband’s gaze, we knew it was likely to be a match made in heaven. These two have had their fair share of baby mama drama but they have refused to let it come between them. Themba is so proud of his new bride that he couldn’t wait to show her off to his entire village and family. The warm welcome seemed to cement things even further for our love birds. Will they continue to rise in love?
Next week the husbands will get their turn to impress the in-laws. Watch our couples navigate it all every Sunday at 18:00 on Mzansi Magic.
