With nostalgia at the heart of this week’s theme, housemates took a heartfelt journey back in time, revisiting the games and moments that defined their childhoods. Adding to the throwback spirit, they staged a 1980s-inspired play centred on a young Soweto couple whose determination helped them rise above life’s challenges and find success. They shared stories through their performances that filled the memories with warmth and reflections on the simple joys of growing up and the resilience shaped by the past.
Ramona recalled a game they called Pik Nikkies, also known as Skalore. The game was played in two teams, with one side bowling and fielding while the other kicked a soccer ball and scored points by running between two ends. Players could be eliminated if they were hit or tagged with the ball before reaching the kicker’s side.
Didi shared memories of Maphutana, a team game played using a handmade ball known as a “five ball”. Teams competed to eliminate each other, making it both competitive and energetic.
For Ashay, childhood fun meant small sided soccer matches, with school shoes placed on the ground to serve as goal posts, a familiar sight in many neighbourhood streets.
Liema fondly remembered playing Stuck in the Mud, a classic playground game where players froze when tagged and relied on teammates to free them.
Mmeli spoke about a game called Spy-2 Mpama, while The Don kept things simple with the timeless favourite, hide and seek.
Thandeka shared her memories of playing Kgadi, a traditional game enjoyed with friends growing up, while Ilano described Umgcwala, a game that involved filling a bottle with sand as part of the challenge.
Bravo B rounded it off by mentioning Ipopo, also known as Five Card, another popular childhood pastime.
These moment highlight how, despite coming from different backgrounds, the housemates shared similar experiences rooted in creativity, teamwork and outdoor play.
