The excitement that usually comes with the Red Telephone has turned into tension and confusion in the house. In the past, every housemate would jump at the chance to answer it, especially when they expected treats or rewards. But this time, the ringing phone brought “missions impossible” and the risk of punishments instead.
The chaos started when Didi received the first call and was tasked with hiding items belonging to the housemates. From there, the tension only grew.
When Ilano answered, she was instructed to invent a fake health story and convince the housemates to participate before the tea bell rang. Success would earn her R500 in her Zakhaa Pay, but she misunderstood the instructions, leading her housemates to eat onions instead – and the mission failed.
Thandeka once answered the phone and was asked to recruit three housemates to share a reward – a box of pizza. She chose Mmeli and Ramona, who found a box of pizza and celebrated, but the mission failed because she only picked two people instead of three. Thandeka later completed a different mission, communicating non-verbally until the tea bell rang, winning R500 in her Zakhaa Pay.
Tonight, Mmeli also faced a challenging call. He was instructed to get all housemates to dance the Macarena with him, promising R700 each if they succeeded, or else he would wash everyone’s gym clothes and lose his Zakhaa money. Initially overwhelmed, he eventually rallied the housemates, except for Didi, who refused- and the mission succeeded, rewarding the participants.
The same fate befell King Wanda too. When the telephone rang for the third time, Mmeli answered it, but Big Sister summoned Mmeli to call King Wanda on the line instead. King Wanda was than tasked with convincing the house that he had heard knocks and strange voices, prompting everyone to investigate before the Friday night arena games. Despite several attempts, he failed the mission and will now have to wash the housemates’ gym clothes.
The thrill of answering the Red Telephone has faded. Where housemates once raced to pick up the call, they now approach it with caution. There was a time when they would sit beside it, eagerly waiting for it to ring. Now, the very same housemates scatter at the sound of it ringing.
