Umkhonto Ogwaza Ekhaya has been sending shock waves since its first episode premiered and there’s no denying its impact on the Mzansi streets week in and out. The brilliant Wright Ngubeni is the man entrusted with the heavy task of accompanying the couples to confess to their families that they have been in relationships with their relatives. Wild.
The chaos that unfolds in every episode but there is so much more that will keep you tuning in every Sunday at 19:30.
Wright Ngubeni is the host
Ngubeni is no stranger to the Mzansi Magic audience as he previously put on the presenter hat on Love Back in 2015 and now, he continues the trend of nailing it every time. He has been treating every couple and their issues with the utmost care, support, and most importantly, no judgement. It’s safe to say that he understands the assignment. Being easy on the eye is simply a welcomed bonus.
Families’ reactions
No parent ever expects their child to come through the door with a confession as big as being in a relationship with their relative so naturally the families’ reactions are the most anticipated. It ranges from shock to anger, then to humiliation that they believe awaits them. If you live for drama, then you would be seated at the right place.
Lovers standing on business
One would think that as soon as you find out you are dating your relative, you would call the relationship off, right? Well, wrong in these cases. These couples come in with the goal of convincing their families to find a way of letting them continue and on different occasions they could be heard saying “we know it’s bad, but we don’t intend on starting over elsewhere”. To make matters worse, some are coming in with children as well.
The outcomes
The immediate no that is expected to come after disclosing such information is at times followed by possible solutions. You may wonder what could be said or done to grant the couples permission to continue … but it happens. In some cases, uncles that have seen this happen before drop some knowledge and leave us shocked.
You will need to tune in to see all of this in action.
