We've paid tribute to Dingiswayo's memory.

We've paid tribute to Thembinkosi Mthembu's performance.

Now it's time to share some of your thoughts on this incredible historical figure and his portrayal in Shaka iLembe.

May we start with this beautiful painting please?

Fan art has exploded in recent years. At times it can be irreverent and silly, created to make us laugh; but often it is a way to pay tribute to something or someone that has moved us. Creating fan art allows fans to express their love and appreciation for people and stories, especially when they have ended. With Dingiswayo's passing, creating works of art centering on this figure allows us to reflect on his journey and keep him alive through memory and media.

Another way of paying tribute and treasuring memories is to write letters. Incredible works of literature have been produced using this method. Known as an epistolary novel, fine examples include The Handmaid's Tale, The Woman in White, and The Color Purple. Writing letters is even considered a therapeutic technique to deal with the grief of losing a loved one.

Shaka iLembe producer Desiree Markgraaff composed a beautiful letter on Instagram to Mthembu and Dingiswayo after episode 7.

Dear @thembinkosi__mthembu ❤️

Thank you for the incredible journey you have taken all of us in South Africa on. For bringing this complex and wonderful character to life. From meeting Godongwana the young prince, to saying a heart wrenching goodbye to the great King Dingiswayo, you have given us your everything as an actor. He is no ordinary character, but a revered ancestor to so many, and how proud I hope they are tonight, of the way you have portrayed him with so much respect and dignity. So much depth and raw honesty. And it was not just emotional, you worked so hard physically for this role too, brutal cold nights, freezing winter water work, exhausting fight scenes, no matter what this character faces, you were 150% committed.

It is with great sadness we say goodbye to our beloved character, King Dingiswayo, portrayed with extraordinary depth and dignity by you @ThembinkosiMthembu.

A great king.
A visionary leader.
A man of unwavering honour.

Even in his final moments, he stood as a true Mthethwa king — proud, resolute, and noble.

We pay tribute to a legendary ancestor and to the remarkable actor who brought him to life from Season 1 through to Season 2, Episode 7.
